WAYVA Summer Volleyball Camp - July 19-22, 2010
The planning is in full swing for the summer camp sessions coming up in a few weeks. There will be a morning session for girls about to enter 3rd-5th grade and an afternoon session for girls about to enter 6th-8th grade. Since we were only able to rent 4 of the 6 gyms at Wayzata High School, we had to adjust the grades being offered and will likely have to limit the number of camp attendees for each session. Here is what you can do to secure a spot at this fun event:

1. Download the registration form and get that mailed ASAP. ===> WAYVA CAMP REGISTRATION FORM

2. Send an email to registration@wayva.org with the name of your camper, the grade she is entering, your phone number, and the T-shirt size she wears.

3. When we receive your mailed registration form, you will get an email confirmation of your participation in the camp session.

Since space is more limited this summer, we will have to stop taking registrations once we have reached capacity.

Construction Notice: There will be construction activity on the Athletic entrance at WHS this summer. It should remain open for campers to enter and exit the building. We will pass along any updates we receive.

Additional details from the registration form

Wayzata Area Youth Volleyball Association (WAYVA) is holding volleyball camps this summer for girls. Camps will take place Monday-Thursday, July 19-22 at Wayzata High School. WAYVA and WHS coaches, and past and present players for both organizations will direct all sessions. There are opportunities for all, whether you have never played or have multiple years of experience. A balance of sport training and opportunities to play will be a part of all sessions.

A lower net and lighter ball are used so participants can have success at all skills. Time will be spent developing skills through fun drills as well as games.

Skills Camp - for girls entering 6th-8th grade, 12:30-3:00 PM, July 19-22 at WHS, Fee: $95
This camp will focus on introducing, developing and refining individual skills as well as enjoying volleyball competition. It is open to girls of all skill levels. April Practice Schedule
The April practice calendar is posted on the Schedules page. This shows all of the remaining practices for each of the teams for the 2010 volleyball season.

Updated Competition Schedule
Several teams had to change competition dates during Spring Break weekends. Their new tournament participation is reflected on the updated competition schedule.

Congratulations on a Great 12s Season
The Wayzata 12s teams have concluded their 2010 season. We had three teams this year with practices starting in November and competitions going from January through March. The Wayzata 12-1s finished first in many of their events and won the Central MN Tournament in St. Cloud. They also finished very highly in the Ralia power league series. Great job! The 12-Blue and 12-Gold teams also had great seasons and boatloads of fun. Thanks for being members of the WAYVA family this season!

March Practice Schedule
The March practice calendar is now available on the Schedules page.

Updated February Practice Schedule 2/7/10
An updated practice schedule for February is now posted. A couple of changes were made to the 13-B and 13-G dates due to conflicts.

Also note the updated competition schedule. We have received confirmation about participating in a few more tournaments. The 12-B and 12-G teams are still waiting on confirmation for a tournament on Feb. 20. We will try to resolve that issue in the next day or two. Any teams wishing to participate in any other events should work with their coaches and families to make arrangements to get those entries in.

February Practice Schedule
The February practice calendar is now available on the Schedules page. Please note a couple of changes in the first week of February from what is shown in the January calendar. Community Education has other events on the night of Feb. 4 which requires us to move our practices. Please check with your coach if you have any questions about your schedule during that week.

January Practice and Competition Schedules
The January practice calendar is now available on the Schedules page. During the second week of January, each team will have only 1 practice due to school facilities being unavailable.

The competition schedule is also posted on the Schedules page. Note that the italicized items are not yet confirmed. Please work with your coach for updated information.

December Practice Schedule
The December practice calendar is now available on the Schedules page.

Please remember that all players need to attend the NCR officiating presentation on December 13 at WHS. It will be from 2 PM to 3:30 PM. All players need to be present to review rule changes for 2010. A parent should attend with their 12s players. Sessions will be held in the gym and in the cafeteria. Enter the school through the athletic entrance and look for directions on where to attend for the various age groups.

Tryouts have completed - Welcome to the new season!
It has been a busy two weeks. We have completed our tryouts for all age groups. We are excited to be getting a new season underway. Welcome to all the returning and new players and parents who are now part of the WAYVA family. We formed the following teams for the 2010 season:

12-1, 12-Blue, 12-Gold, 13-1, 13-Blue, 13-Gold, 14-1, 14-2, 16-1, and 17-1. Let the games begin!

November Practice Calendar
The practice calendar for November is posted on the Schedules page. Note that there is a meeting for all new players and a parent at the beginning of your practice session on Sunday, Nov. 22. We will go over our WAYVA club policies and answer any questions you might have about the coming season. If you are a parent of a returning WAYVA player, you do not need to attend this session. We will be meeting in the gym and it should last about 30-45 minutes, then the players will complete their practice sessions.

Note that there will be practice on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. We verified that the school facilities will be open. Some of you may be traveling for the holidays - if you are unable to make it to this practice sesison, please be sure to tell your coach you will be unable to attend.

The December calendar should be posted by the end of this week. Now that we know the number of teams, we can go ahead and schedule out the remainder of the December practices.

What You Should Know About WAYVA
We are a community club started in 1997 to teach the sport of volleyball to area athletes. We have seasoned players on our top teams, and players new to the sport on others. The coaches are avid adult players and love being in the gym helping these teams learn and compete. Practices are held in Wayzata school district and nearby facilities for the convenience of our players. We work hard at keeping costs reasonable, striving for a balance in teaching and competing at a high level while providing opportunities to as many players as possible.

We intend to select two teams in each age group: 12s, 13s, 14s, 15s, 16s. We will also plan on choosing one 17s team. Those plans could change based on player demand for certain age groups. Since there are limits to the number of practice times and the number of coaches, it is possible that player cuts could happen at any age group.

What Should You Expect at Tryouts?
Please check the Tryouts page for the date of the tryouts for your current grade in school. We will begin registering players at 3 PM. Players will be divided into groups and will rotate through skills assessment and uniform sizing. We will then put them into game situations to observe communication, teamwork, hustle, etc. Teams will be selected and players and parents will need to complete all paperwork before leaving. We hope to be done by 7 PM.

Note: Upon making a team, each player will be asked to sign a NCR player participation form. This indicates their commitment to the team and makes them ineligible to play at another club until the current JO season is completed.

You have the option of paying your full season fee at tryouts or breaking it up into four equal payments. All payments will be collected at tryouts. Post-dated checks will be submitted on the 15th of December, January, and February.

We hope to see lots of familiar faces in the gym, as well as many new ones. Come learn a sport you can enjoy for life!
