Costs
What uniform items do fees include? A uniform consists of a pair of blue shorts, a jersey, and a practice t-shirt.
Other
Can I play on a Wayzata JO team if I live outside the Wayzata School District 284? Players living outside the district are welcome, although we must maintain a balance of in-district participants. All out-of-district participants will pay an additional $50 fee.
Practice
When, where and how often are practices? Since we work with community education for practice facilities, the practices will vary in place, time and day from week to week. Common locations are Wayzata High School, East Middle School and Plymouth Covenant Church. Except for 12-2s and 12-3, practices are held twice a week from 90 to 120 minutes. We practice weeknights and on Sunday afternoon. We try to end practices by 9:30 or earlier when possible. As a general rule, we try to give the younger teams the earlier practice times on most evenings. We strive to get all teams out of the gym by 9:30 PM. While we strive for consistent times, your schedule may be different each week and will be posted on our website each month.
What if there are conflicts with other activities on some nights? What is considered an excused absence? We all have to balance the important things in our lives. We believe that family, church, and school are important for each of us and recognize that scheduling conflicts will occur. It is the responsibility of the athlete to notify their coach well in advance about potential conflicts. Items that cannot be influenced by the player, such as occasional religion classes or band concerts, will be excused absences. Conflicts that occur due to not planning better, such as waiting to do homework when you have a scheduled practice or competition, are likely to be unexcused. Unexcused absences may result in a reduced role during upcoming competitions.
What if we have other activities that conflict with practice? We understand that conflicts are inevitable. Being part of a volleyball team means doing your best to arrange homework and jobs around volleyball as much as possible. Contact your coach as soon as conflicts arise to make arrangements. If you are juggling two sports - we try to help when we can but inevitably you may miss practices and tournaments. You are responsible to work with your coach’s team policies on missed practices and tournaments. There may be reduced playing times at competitions out of fairness to team members who attended practices and are up to speed on the latest team skills and strategies from recent practices.
Tryouts
Will there be cuts? Our goal is to provide every potential player an opportunity to participate. However, due to gym time and coach limitations we cannot guarantee an opportunity for all.
