WAYVA Season Details
Practices are usually twice per week but there will be weeks with only a single practice. Practice sessions range 90-120 minutes and will be held in Wayzata school district facilities (typically Wayzata High School and Meadow Ridge Elementary). Practices will be on Sunday afternoons or can be any night of the week between 6:00 PM and 9:30 PM. We try to avoid Wednesday and Friday night practices whenever possible. The nights you practice will NOT be consistent from week to week. The practice schedule will be posted online about a month ahead.
Competition season begins in early January for all teams. The team will compete in local tournaments with most being a single day event. There is at least one multi-day event in February where the team will compete both days. Tournaments are located within the metro and surrounding areas, such as Monticello, St Michael, Rockford, Orono, Lakeville, Woodbury, etc. The events and dates will be finalized in December once tournament registrations have been confirmed. The schedule will require competing about every other weekend though that can vary.
If the team wishes to play in additional events or travel outside of the local area, those arrangements need to be made as early in the season as possible so registration can be finalized, and hotel rooms arranged. There will be additional costs for these events to cover registration and coach expenses. Previous years have seen teams attend the Rochester Cup, and events in Duluth.
The team fee paid by each player covers all registration fees to the league, all competition entry fees (unless you choose to do additional events), coaching stipends, and the apparel worn by each player. Uniforms consist of a practice T-shirt, shorts, a game jersey, and a warm-up jacket, all of which are included in your team fee. Each player should also have a set of knee pads and good court shoes for the season. There are no additional costs to your season that are required.
