It takes dedication and excitement for the sport to be a great coach. We have a great coaching team here at WAYVA. Some of us have been coaching here for many years with the club, while others are newer. We have to figure out a way to prevent things like new babies, new jobs, relocation, or Master Degree studies from stealing coaches away! All coaches within the North Country Region are required to complete IMPACT training through the league, as well as completing the annual online video training and certification for their team level. Our coaches have attended coaching clinics presented through MVI, MSHSL, and area clubs, and some have CAP Level 1 certification through the USA Volleyball organization. In addition, we all play volleyball on adult leagues both indoors and out.

Each of these coaches will be joined by our mentors returning from last season who want to continue to be involved with coaching but cannot commit to doing so full time this season. Here are the coaches you will be working with during the coming season:
Azra joins us as a student coach this season. She is a sophomore at Wayzata High School. She played JO volleyball at WAYVA through 8th grade and at a variety of clubs afterwards.
Cindy and Steve Bouma
This will be Cindy & Steve’s 18th year as coaches for Wayzata JO’s. Longtime players themselves, they became coaches when their daughter (now out of college) started playing for Wayzata JOs. They both are USA Volleyball CAP Level I and IMPACT certified coaches. They have coached 12s, 13s and 14s teams for Wayzata. They are passionate about teaching young ladies about this sport and love working with the 12s age group. They also find time to play volleyball in recreational leagues throughout the year.
This will be Colin’s 3rd season coaching volleyball for WAYVA. Colin was introduced to the volleyball world 6 years ago through different sand and indoor leagues and quickly settled into coaching.
Emily’s volleyball career started with JO, then during school played High School Varsity as a freshman. In college, she played on the women’s club league and co-ed intramurals. Emily stays active within the Twin Cities volleyball community by playing on recreational sand and indoor leagues. Emily will not be coaching full-time, but will be helping out where needed.
Jamie has been involved with WAYVA for a few years now and has been playing volleyball for over 35 years. He has played at MamaG’s and other local venues on leagues from CoEd C to Men’s 4’s BB and even caught a few 4’s and 2’s tournaments in Mexico! As a father of two adult daughters, Jamie also has had coaching experience with Soccer and Girls Softball over the years and loves to help players grow and have fun! Jamie will not be coaching full-time, but will be helping out where needed.
John started coaching for the club when his daughter (now graduated from college, married and working as an ICU RN in Philly) began playing for Wayzata JOs as a 6th grader. John returns for his 18th season with Wayzata JOs. He is also a USA Volleyball CAP Level I and IMPACT certified coach. John has coached 12s, 13s, 14s and 16s with Wayzata, but found his niche with the 13s/14s age group. John enjoys playing volleyball in recreational leagues and is the captain of the WAYVA adult sand volleyball team during the summer months.
This will be Kristin’s 9th year coaching with WAYVA. She has coached 14s/15s/16s. Kristin has been playing competitive volleyball for 25+ years and is passionate about the sport. She plays upper division ball (BB/A) year round, in different formats – doubles, triples, quads, and sixes. In 2012, she was fortunate to spend three months playing club ball in Helsinki, Finland. Kristin also officiates matches for adult leagues around the twin cities.
Melissa was a setter at St. Francis High School and was on the varsity team for three of her four years. After high school, she went to Minnesota State University, Mankato and was on the track team for her first year. After college, she moved back to the area and married her high school sweetheart. She was hired on as the 9th Grade Volleyball Coach at St. Francis High School this past fall. This will be Melissa’s third year with WAYVA.
Morgan played high school and JO volleyball in her hometown in Illinois starting at the age of 12. After high school, she moved to Minnesota and played two years for Augsburg College. This is Morgan’s 5th year of coaching for WAYVA and she is excited to pass along her passion for volleyball to the next generation!
Teagan joins us as a student coach this season. She is a senior at Wayzata High School. She played JO volleyball at WAYVA through 8th grade and at a variety of other clubs afterwards.
